A 2.3-magnitude earthquake was recorded off the coast of Fujairah on Wednesday evening, November 4, according to the UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), drawing attention to fresh seismic activity along the country’s eastern coastline.
The minor tremor was detected through the NCM’s National Seismic Network. According to Gulf News, the earthquake occurred at 8:06pm UAE time at a depth of 5 kilometres. A small number of people reportedly felt the tremor, but it had no impact on the country.
The latest Fujairah earthquake follows another minor seismic event recorded off Dibba Al Fujairah on October 16, when the NCM reported a 1.6-magnitude tremor.
Fujairah earthquake: What happened on November 4?
The NCM reported that a 2.3-magnitude earthquake occurred offshore from Fujairah on Wednesday.
The tremor was recorded at 8:06pm UAE time, at a depth of 5 kilometres.
The earthquake was detected off the emirate’s eastern coastline rather than being reported as a damaging event in a populated area. The report indicated that a small number of people felt the tremor, but no impact was reported.
Earthquakes of this magnitude are generally considered minor. However, their effects can depend on factors such as depth, location and distance from buildings.
The NCM has not reported damage or injuries associated with the latest Fujairah earthquake.
NCM monitors seismic activity off UAE’s eastern coast
The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology monitors seismic activity through its National Seismic Network.
The network records earthquakes occurring within the UAE and surrounding regions, helping authorities track their magnitude, location and other characteristics.
Although the UAE experiences relatively low levels of seismic activity compared with major earthquake zones, the eastern region is monitored due to its proximity to seismically active areas.
According to Dubai Municipality’s seismicity overview, regional earthquake activity is associated in part with southern Iran and the Zagros mountain range.
The latest Fujairah earthquake highlights the importance of continued monitoring and official reporting of seismic events across the country.
Previous 1.6-magnitude earthquake recorded off Dibba Al Fujairah
The November 4 earthquake follows a minor tremor recorded off Dibba Al Fujairah on October 16, 2026.
At that time, the NCM reported an earthquake measuring 1.6 magnitude. No damage or injuries were reported in connection with that incident.
The latest tremor registered a higher magnitude than the October event. However, the difference between the two measurements does not indicate that a larger earthquake is imminent.
Individual earthquakes cannot, on their own, be used to predict future seismic events.
Readers can also follow recent UAE weather developments and regional security updates affecting UAE residents for broader developments across the country and the Gulf.
Was the Fujairah earthquake dangerous?
