Corrections Policy
What we do when we get something wrong: how to report an error, how quickly we act, and how corrections are recorded.
We get things wrong. What matters is what happens next.
How to report an error
Email (mkvdigitalsolutions@gmail.com) with the headline, the passage in question and, where possible, the correct information and its source. Every message is read by an editor. You do not need to be the subject of the story to raise a correction.
What we do
Factual errors are corrected in the article itself as soon as they are verified. The corrected article carries a dated note at the foot describing what was changed. We do not silently edit a published story.
Significant errors — anything that changes the meaning of a story, misstates a material figure, or misrepresents a person or organisation — additionally carry a note at the top of the article.
Headline and standfirst errors are corrected with the same note, because those are the parts most people read.
Clarifications, where a passage was accurate but capable of being misread, are added as a dated note without altering the original text.
What we do not do
We do not remove published stories at the request of their subjects. Where a story is shown to be substantially wrong, we correct it and say so; unpublishing conceals the record rather than repairing it.
We do not remove correction notes once added. A correction is part of the article permanently.
Timing
Errors of fact are corrected within one working day of verification. Where verification takes longer, we say so in reply to whoever raised it.
Escalation
If you have raised a correction and believe it has not been handled properly, write to the Editor-in-Chief at mkvdigitalsolutions@gmail.com who will respond personally.
