1. What Changed in the UAE Wage Protection System
Following its December 2025 upgrade, the UAE Wage Protection System has undergone significant transformations. The ministry says it now goes beyond ensuring compliance and aims to make adherence to the system a seamless part of the customer journey. The upgrade is described as a transformative shift in the employer journey.
2. Digital Registration: No Paperwork or Branch Visits
Under the new model, employers no longer need to submit documents or visit financial institutions in person to register for the system. The process is completed digitally through institutions that are directly linked to MoHRE's systems, so the service can be provided instantly.
3. The Technology Behind the UAE Wage Protection System
The system is built on an integrated digital infrastructure centred on secure Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). They enable the real-time and secure exchange of data between the various parties, improve accuracy and reliability, and shorten wage payment processing time.
4. Al Etihad Payments Runs the Central Platform
Al Etihad Payments, the national payments entity owned by the CBUAE, develops and operates the enhanced central platform for the UAE Wage Protection System. It creates a direct and instant link between MoHRE's systems and participating financial institutions. Official information is published by the Central Bank of the UAE and MoHRE.
5. Seven New Partners Take the Total to 17
The upgraded system is expanding its services gradually, through partnerships with seven new establishments:
- First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB)
- Emirates NBD
- Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB)
- Mashreq Bank
- Ajman Bank
- Lari Exchange
- First Gulf Exchange Centre
This brings the total number of partners to 17.
6. The Scale of the UAE Wage Protection System
The UAE Wage Protection System covers more than 99 per cent of private-sector workers and reports average monthly transfers of Dh37 billion. The ministry says this reflects the system's reliability and its role in enhancing stability and transparency in the labour market.
What the Upgrade Means for Employers and Workers
The platform is intended to reduce friction in payroll administration while improving the accuracy, traceability and security of salary-transfer data. For workers, the intended outcome is more reliable wage processing and stronger transparency around payments. These are the ministry's stated aims, and the report does not give results or timings.
- For employers: registration is digital and instant through participating, directly linked institutions
- For workers: the stated goals are more reliable wage processing and clearer payment records
- For financial institutions: a direct, instant link to MoHRE's systems through the central platform

What MoHRE Said About the UAE Wage Protection System
Dalal Alshehhi, MoHRE's Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Protection, said the upgraded system has evolved from a wage-compliance mechanism into a comprehensive digital financial ecosystem supporting the UAE's labour market.
The ministry said the initiative contributes to Zero Government Bureaucracy in its operations and supports the "We the UAE 2031" vision, including wider financial inclusion and stronger digital financial governance.
What the Report Does Not Say
- The exact date from which the new registration model applies to all employers
- How employers who bank with an institution that is not yet a partner will register
- Whether there are changes to penalties for late or missed salary payments
